Between 2011 and 2016 One Mayfair was one of London’s premier wedding venues and the jewel in One Events’ crown. Sadly, in late 2016 it was sold for a different commercial use, but SALUT had the chance to grace its stage in 2015 in what was an unforgettable night.
The couple love their music and the brief was clear from the start; cool, fresh and funky! After months of searching for the right band they discovered SALUT while at Ronnie Scotts, where a number of the band were playing, and uttered the line that we often hear on first meeting our wedding couples, “All the wedding bands we had considered were either dated or cheesy, we wanted a REAL band that also have experience in events – thank goodness we found you”.
After months planning, we fast forward to One Mayfair with the band about to take to the stage to perform the first dance. The couple chose Amazed by Boyz II Men, famous for its beautiful but complicated vocal harmonies. Our three male singers along with our highy talented female drummer who supports on backing vocals, took the task very seriously as they always do when preparing a first dance. A clip of the four rehearsing backstage in One Mayfair was captured, seen in the video below:
The practice certainly paid-off and the band sounded fantastic performing this song live and would recommend it as a perfect first dance choice. We often get asked if there is a trend in first dances and the answer is certainly, yes. In 2015, John Legend’s All of Me reigned supreme and in 2016 it was Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud that was the most requested by our wedding couples. Let’s Stay Together and Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You are two classic songs that also get frequently picked by SALUT’s bride & grooms.
The rest of this beautiful wedding was as memorable as the first dance and guests partied with SALUT long into the night. Although One Mayfair is no longer available for private events, One Marylebone is a great alterative and also operated by One Events. SALUT have performed at several stunning weddings at One Marylebone, a venue famous for its high vaulted ceilings and cathedral acoustics. London’s luxury wedding market is busier than it ever has been and top venues and hotels are often booked-out for 3 years in advance at weekends. It is vital that couples are organized and start their search as soon as possible for venues and suppliers to avoid disappointment. SALUT have wedding bookings 2 to 3 years in advance and Summer Saturdays in particular prove to be extremely popular.
