Whilst archeological discoveries trace the history of Dubai to prehistoric times, it has only been within the last 50 years when oil was discovered in 1966 that Dubai became the metropolis it is today. It is hard now to imagine that Dubai was once just a small fishing village.
Although not as mature as Europe, Dubai’s luxury wedding market has come on leaps & bounds over the last decade and continues to evolve every year. The city boasts some of the world’s finest five & six star hotels with unrivalled levels of service and a great year-round climate. This growth has been driven from a growing local population as well as an influx of destination weddings couples jetting-in from around the world. This has led to the formation of many local entertainment agents and wedding planners who have quickly become some of the busiest in the world.
The One and Only Royal Mirage is one of Dubai’s premier hotels & commands an enviable spot on a private peninsula of Palm Island. With its secluded beach and unbroken views of the impressive new Dubai skyline it is the perfect spot to tie the knot. In December 2015, SALUT were lucky enough to be flown out by Cherry On Top Events, Dubai’s leading wedding planners, to play at their client’s wedding. Cherry On Top specialize in taking a very personalized approach to each event learning about their clients and injecting their individual personality into all aspects of the wedding. This was certainly apparent from the moment we arrived on-site with over 200 staff working to transform the One and Only from a functioning hotel into the couple’s dream setting.
The fairytale wedding was inspired by a Shakespearean sonnet. Guest arrived to the One & Only Royal Mirage for a cocktail reception in the mazes of the oval lawn followed by dinner and dancing in the majestic amphitheatre. Floral domes created a magical ceiling over the dance floor while suspended arrangements added drama to the tables.
SALUT have been booked many times to play at weddings in Dubai where our couples typically like to have a mixture of Western & Arabic music throughout the day. Often a local band will play over an afternoon drinks reception before SALUT take to the stage in the evening to perform the first dance along with the main dancing set. The band is often followed by a local DJ who is well versed in popular Arabic music to continue the party. This format works very well indeed, satisfying guests of all ages and nationalities, making sure there is always a fantastic energy and enough musical variety to ensure everyone is dancing.
As previously touched upon, there has recently been a huge growth in destination weddings, (a popular example is a UK based couple getting married in Italy). Destination weddings tend to be high-budget and luxurious affairs and a number of the industry’s suppliers specialise in this market. SALUT are one of the foremost bands and on our travels we see the same suppliers around the world (planners, photographers, videographers etc). Denee Motion, one of the world’s most in-demand videographers of destination weddings and captured a wonderful live video of SALUT performing at The One And Only. You really get a flavor of the glamorous setting as well as the amazing energy the band help create. If you haven’t already seen, it is well worth a watch below:
